Memory Lane...when I was stationed on the USS David R. Ray (since then torpedoed in a NORTHPAC exercise) we used to use Seal Beach on an infrequent basis. I always enjoyed watching those guys switch the pier. A rare sight even at that date to see those old cars flyin' around! But then the fun would begin with the tedious task of onload.
Now, somtimes we get trains out of Pt. Chicago, and as said by Roger above, it is all containerized, but at that location, still by ship and train. I wonder how convenient it is to onload conventional weaponry from a shipping container as opposed to a boxcar. Probably not a whole lot different.
