Sierra Railroad #3 Jamestown, CA Sept. 1964

It was a warm, quiet, September afternoon in Jamestown, CA as Sierra Railroad #3 puttered around the yard after a day of filming the pilot episode of "The Big Valley" out near Keystone. The classic depot had not yet succumbed to fire. Barry Goldwater and Lyndon Johnson were their party's nominee for that years election. Just a few weeks before, a phantom attack on a US Destroyer became known as the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. Ten years later, close to 60,000 Americans who were alive the day I took this photo, would be dead.
