Once locally known as having an extensive selection of railroad books, Powells in Cedar Hills is downsizing its book inventory substantially. I spoke with a staffer yesterday, and they are making floor space for toys and candy. Such is the state of the retail book industry in this Kindle world.
Powells book buyer, and railfan, Dan Haneckow, had once assembled an impressive shelf of railroad books that stretched about twelve to fifteen feet, floor to ceiling. The section is now at least halved, and many books have been discounted. I purchased a Locomotive Quarterly issue for $4.95, and I have seen these at swap meets for at least $10. I think that Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451 perhaps needs to be revised, with the temperature figure adjusted to the ignition point of your Kindle battery!
