I agree that the protestors need to re-think how they're delivering the message. The homeless and drug users that live in the camps are not helping anyone. When it comes to the Tea Party, they have a very good point when it comes to the Federal Government: Let's just vote the bastards out. Fine. Although they need to reconsider their connection with uber-rich Libertarians. The OWS protestors have a very good point too: The corporate elite is running the country with an ideology of greed, but the problem is WE CAN'T VOTE THEM OUT! They are very powerful people who are running the country and we can't vote them out. How does democracy fit into that equation? Only as a desert mirash? It's something that we pretend is there, but it really isn't. Can we live with that? These are the guys who have kept wages stagnant for 30 years while seeing their earnings shoot up by hundreds of percentage points. These are the guys who don't truly feel rich unless they have $10M in hard cash, etc. It's a world of inequality that's going the to extreme at the cost of the middle class.
The OWS protestors are not hippies smoking pot. They're honest Americans who want to work for a honest wage that pays the bills with a little left over to raise children, go on vacations, have a nice car, whatever. Many are college educated who want a means to pay off their student loans. What's a $55,000 BA really worth if there's no jobs out there? What about the bank tacking on an extra $10,000 in interest every five years on your loan? They're looking for balance, fairness, and corporate responsibliy in the country. Is there something wrong with that? The OWS protestors however needs leaders and a smart endgame. They can hold up signs until they're blue in the face and nothing will change. They need to understand that and push harder. Also, both OWS protestors and the Tea Party should look for common ground. We all want a better America for ourselves and for our children. Shouldn't that be more important that current political ideology of middle-groundless absolute left or absolute right thinking? I think it would help us all be a little more moderate and accepting of different political views. We were like that once, we can be again. The big question is, can OWS do this without riots, general strikes, bloodshed, and death in the streets? Sadly, it's kind of looking like that's where we're going -- but we can't forget the old saying, "Freedome isn't free".
And we're in an age where our freedom is being tested by great powers within.
