Thanks for all the info guys. Great pics Stephen, and kudos on helping to keep the PNW of the past preserved on film. Will I have to wait for a book to be published?

My father is more of the "casual railfan". He can find a new box of slides or photos by cleaning up the shed a little (not the best way to store those things Dad...) and we always look through it to try and distinguish where, or what the picture is of. Most pics and slides are intact, but he never documented the date or location, so it's pure imagination to help. One pic that we mulled over for about four years was of a GN passenger train, on a double-tracked wye (the train was on the only double-tracked portion. There was a two lane road that intersected the wye, and crossed at grade over what seemed like the two more used portions of it. The sun was directly focused up a long gully of overgrown birch trees hence where the train emerged from. The head end of the train was directed west (from the location of the sun shadows) Guess where? Scroll down....

The train was crossing Brunette avenue in Coquitlam, BC, before the overpass was built, before the freeway (#1) was cut so close to be visible, before the train was discontinued, before there were signals in place at the location, before Sapperton was a station stop. Talk about CSI:Railfan!
