You can believe that if you want. For me personally, I completed a 248-page book while I was an undergrad, a PhD effort, that was published last year by a major publishing house. I paid a little over $10,000 in travel and film expenses to do it and if you think I'm making money on that you're nuts. I worked my fingers to the bone to complete that thing while keeping my grades up. And today it's all junk. All worthless and I'm sitting here on $63,000 in student loan debt that I can't pay back. Meanwhile the interest keeps going up and up and up. I will never be able to retire because of those loans and even though I have a good credit score, my credit is worthless because my income-to-debt ratio is a wreck. A close friend of mine has an academic resume just like mine. He got a book pubished as well, got good grades to stand out from the herd but he did it all ten year earlier in 1990. He got a job at a university and was able to pay off his loans because school fees didn't cost $700+ a class back then. I can't get a job at the local McDonalds because I'm over-qualified. I can't get a job that requires a degree because they're just not out there. I can't even recall how many resumes I've sent out, how many phone calls I've made, how many office visits I'm made. The feeling of hopelessness Americans are feeling today isn't about "Gimme Gimme Gimme". We just want to work for a fair wage that pays the bills with a little left over but of course that's not possible when CEO's get multi-million dollar bonuses and corporations are hording billions in cash, not hiring, etc., etc., etc.
