Martin, this really touches my heart. My dad died earlier this year. He, me, and my son got to go on a number of camping or hunting trips together over the years, some were actually close to the railroad. None of them were really three-generation railfan trips like yours, though. My dad thought trains were OK, and in fact he and my mom were hugely impressed by what they saw happening at places like the Spiral Tunnels. But dad wasn't into the dawn-to-dusk drive/hike photo action like my son and I. Your story is a rare gem. Thanks for sharing.
