Many years ago I remember hearing the BN Babb detector do this.
"BN Detector Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
It continued on for and hour or more until a maintainer could get out to shut the thing down. Since the Babb detector sits near the top of a hill the thing tied up BN Ch.1 and all the repeaters in the area during that time. When it finally got shut down the maintainer told the dispatcher that "the thing just hasn't been quite the same since it got struck by lightning." (it was supposed to say "BN Detector Babb, No defects, repeat no defects.")
