So that must be the 101 inside the plant. Originally the mill belonged to Weyerhauser until the expansion of Redwood National Park in 1978, then sold to LP as their flakeboard plant. When LP went belly-up it was sold to Hambro of Crescent City. I believe Hambro is (was) the last forest products producer in Del Norte County.
Looks like Simpson (Green Diamond Resource), Mendocino (old PL), Schmidtbauer in Eureka and Red Emerson's old Sierra Pacific mill west of Arcata are just about it. Simpson and Mendocino are the only owners operating off their lands on the North Coast......the other two are just log buyers wherever they can get them. All those chips and "perfect" logs on the dock in Eureka are headed for China. Kind of a sad end to a dominant industry.
