I remember when SP transferred me from Houston to Salinas, I made a point of driving through Sanderson to see if it was as bad as everyone said it was. Yup. You really needed to love the middle of nowhere to like Sanderson. Seems to me the closest hospital was in Lubbock, or some such. Seem to me that was an issue with a trainmaster with a pregnant wife. Wasn't Carrizzo another of those places that was kinda low on the totem pole. Of course, SP had a lot of those kinda places. A friend (well, usually the friend's wife) loves to tell tales about their "life" at Gila Bend. Then you had the places on the Coast where folks were happy to retire in place.

Them were the good olde days.
