This article, in the September/October 1997
County Magazine may help place the date. About 3/8 down, it says "But on one foggy morning in 1994, two trains collided head-on between Sanderson and Marathon. Four engineers, all Sanderson men known to everyone in town, died."
A bit more digging indicates
the crash occurred July 25, 1994.
