I share your anguish for the possible loss of the Santa cruse line. As a kid my parents and I went to the boardwalk many time. I even saw one of the trains bringing high school kids for the south bay to the boardwalk. In deed that was the great times.
But back in the day is gone. Its now time for you and anyone else who is interested in saving the line to start the ball rolling to do so. If you know of non-profit that has a railroad theme, partner with them and see if that group can help get the line donated. Or if that is not possible, become a non-profit company yourself. When my wife and I moved to Idaho 3 years ago I did just that. I think I have found a short line to save. My point is don't give up on something you and others love...do something to help save it.
