The county is still trying to extort a significant sum from CEMEX for air monitoring contractor costs incurred during that debacle. AFAIK CEMEX has heretofore refused on the grounds it was unnecessary, as the the air district was already doing their own testing that subsequently cleared the plant for operation. As an aside, it was noted by some familiar with the issue that the original recorded spikes causing all this may have been due to the proximity of some monitoring equipment to Highway 1 and the inherent dust there. The county duplicating the monitoring was in line with them hiring consultants for an unnecessary EIR looking into any potential environmental impacts of a change of branch ownership on paper. The gravy train makes more visits to Santa Cruz than the actual one does.
