The Boron is advertised as a local going on duty at Barstow at 10:30 with rest days of Friday and Saturday. It interchanges at Cadiz with the ARZC. I think the four axle power has to do with the ARZC track at Cadiz, where the local runs around the train, and probably Saltus where they switch. But I can't say for sure about why four axle power, except it has that most of the time.
