Thanks for the plug Eric, The Sumpter Valley railroad has been is service since 1976 and has slowly grown to 6 miles of mainline. However a good year for SVRR is 10k riders and ridership has remained stagnant since the mid 80's. I have heard the WURR's ridership has been closer to the 1500 person mark. It will take a massive investment to create the facilities to support a steam operation. I don't see the counties making this investment and it's tough to get grants for a for profit operation. I would like to see the WURR make a go of their operation for exactly the reason that keeps you from visiting us. another steam ride would encourage more railfans to visit the area.
I just don't know who will pay for it.
