Interesting comment on the oil shorting out the connector because by and large lubricating oils
(and hydraulic oils) are non-conductive. In fact we still use oil filled solenoids in some four
ways. I would think that some contaminant, most likely water is causing the short as it doesn't
take more than about 400 PPM for the fluid to go conductive.
