One of the problems with computers is stray radiation, both cosmic rays and the background radiation of alpha particles (helium nuclei) emitted by everything. As the physical dimensions of the regions used for each bit of memory get physically smaller and smaller, the more significant the problem becomes of stray radiation altering bits here and there, causing a glitchs of one sort or another.
