The original diesel engine was ran on peanut oil not veggi oil. The fuel efficiency of trains is higher than rubber tire based motorized transportation. As fuel increases, more people move to mass transit like SMART. The more people on it, the better for SMART, to a point. The point is over crowding, and slow to get additional DMU's. You also have to max throughput for the rail route as configured. Ie how much is double track vs single track. Gauntlet track would be considered single track for throughput purposes.
