Here on the " Wet Side " of the Cascades, much has been made of Queen Christine's ( Gov. Gregiore ) plan to raise road fixer - upper funds by adding a tax of $1.50 a barrel on all oil refined in the state. The consensus of opinion among those legislaters who plan to run for re - election, which Christine does not , is that the bill will be Dead on Arrival. Also consider that a fair amount of the gasoline refined in Washington is barged to Oregon points, where due to that states' lack of sales tax it is often a dime a gallon cheaper than Washington.
In other oil related news, the " rail rats " who move shipping containers between the various ocean terminals in Seattle and the EwePee & BNSF Intermodal yards are staging a shut down, claiming their wages have not kept up with their costs, including diesel fuel. This action is having quite an impact on BNSF's Seattle International Gateway yard @ Stacy St.
