A suicider is a trespasser and obviously has issues (bad parents, poor childhood or losses but don't we all have them to some degree). A person who commits a robbery or crime also has "baggage". Over the past couple of years I have lost friends to cancer, where their last days were spent in hospice and all were heavily sedated with morphine. They would have given anything to have their mobility back, too see their children or grandchildren graduate high school, get married or live to take care of their parents in their old age. A suicide causes a delay for thousands of stranded commuters who are anxious because most have others depending on them; with parents whose children are still at school or day care waiting to be picked up as the building nears closing and it gets dark with no one to pick them up, a loved one at home who needs care, a diabetic on the Metrolink that needs to eat or someone who needs medical attention in an area not easily accessible or lost wages for being late to work or getting written up for tardiness where a person's job and livelihood is on the line. Life can be stressful enough and work commuters have stresses and challenges but are doing what they can to survive. They get up early and go to work every day but a suicider is a coward or a dropout who cares about no one except themselves. Before you start accusing commuters of being hateful, think about the situation that one SELFISH Less-Than-1% individual causes for thousands of people. California should follow Japan's example by creating new laws that pass on the costs of train suicide on the trespasser's family (and place property liens) for emergency response, investigation, police/fire and any HAZMAT cleanup.
