The City of Yreka has struggled for recognition virtually all of its' life. First the railroad built to the East through Montague, prompting the locals to build the Yreka Western as a connection to the outside world. I also recall the original surveys for Interstate 5 would avoid the city to the East. Somehow the city was eventually included in the final alignment.
