I started going to Winterail in 1996 to "work" in Rob Carlson's Altamont Press booth. My husband would come with me. This will be the second year that I have not attended over that time span and it is only because the AP booth is no longer there. It is also because about 5 years ago husband said he couldn't "deal with it" anymore and would drop me off and visit with a friend etc., which really wasn't a problem but lemme tell you, of the 900+ attendees, a goodly portion of them are "young" and single and rabid fans who don[t pay attention to simple basic hygiene and wardrobe cleanliness. Over the years I threatened to set up a booth with soap, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant etc. because some of these railfans really are total slobs. Their social skills consist of farting and belching contests and their familiarity with basic courtesy is practically non-existent. Pack a 900 seat theater full of these types with an aging air conditioning system and you have a room full of unpleasant odors and etc. and loud and unruly attendees.
There are a goodly portion of the regular Winterail attendees who do NOT meet the criteria I have listed above, but unfortunatly, there are far too many who do and they are the ones everyone seems to see.
