Off topic a bit: For the TVs ... I don't think digital included a HD mandate - they're separate but related. Probably half of the stations and subchannels in the Sacramento area are digital with the old picture format. Not to say the digital change was cheap - it wasn't, and around here it seems like there was a vast consolidation of transmitters to a couple of tower sites probably to share infrastructure. FWIW, I actually get more channels (not even counting the subchannels) with a low-end outdoor-style antenna (in the attic to keep the CC&R people happy) in digital than I used to with analog, at least in part because most are now in the same direction so I get a decent signal without antenna fiddling. The digital box for the old analog TV upstairs seems to be a tad more sensitive than the Real Digital HDTV downstairs. I didn't have to throw out anything, but the broadcasters certainly did ...
