The three plus mile transbay tunnel is the biggest gap of substation on BART. The third rail in the tubes are highly clad to increase conductivity. Loma Priata knocked one at the San Francisco end of the tubes but the Oakland one remained operational. Or maybe it was visa versa. BART was able to limp the trains in the tunnel out on the remaining one. No adjacent substations on BART are fed from the same portion of the net.
