In my experience, the headlights are hot and you do not want to bump into them. The biggest complaint I had with glare and high mounted headlights is in snow or fog. One advantage of mounting the headlight higher is that it is more visible from a distance while cresting a hill (vertical curve).

It is interesting to compare the combinations of gryalight/mars light and headlight mounting combinations.
