Sound Transit Light Link question

Recently on another site there was pics of the Sound Transit Light Rail link in Seattle showing the grade from I-5 to Sea Tac Airport, over 5% if I remember right.

My question to all of you:

How are these light rail vehicles going to be able to make these grades vs a heavy rail train? I'm curious how this light rail system is going to function when we have snowfall and ice in Seattle (since the freeways get gridlocked) I drove the M L King Way section last week and that is a pretty good grade there from the tunnel up M L King going southbound.

Thanks
