Espee replaced the white 'GM ' letters on the nose with white 'SP' letters. The only EMD markings on the sides were the intertwined EMD logos on each side of the cab. These were removed or repainted blue when the Espee road numbers were applied in the same location. The EMD road numbers on the under - cab access doors were repainted or removed also. Three of the four EMD Demo SD - 45X, units # 4201 - 4202 - 4203, were built to Espee specs, with the L - shaped engineer's windshield, SP light packages and large snow plows front and rear. The first demo, EMD # 5740, had the L - shaped engineer windshield, but was a 'standard ' configuration otherwise.
