I would like to add a few words to the many others that knew Chard Walker. Chard had studied pipe organ in Los Angeles for several years with the first really fine organ teacher/organist/choirmaster Ernest Douglas in the 1940's. When he and Margaret moved into the station house at Summit, he put together a kit electronic organ of three manuals (keyboards) and a full pedalboard. Since the Walker's had a pass on the ATSF, they would come down to San Diego on a Sunday, attend a 2:30pm concert the the Spreckels Outdoor Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park and then return to their home at the head of Cajon Pass. I was the Official Civic Organist and would play a selection that they requested and take them back to the Santa Fe Station/Union Depot. One Sunday I was asked not to play for a Veterans Day event and I played an outdoor program at Summit on their electronic organ at a lunch break on a rail trip of fans to the Cushenbury. Those fun days are now but a memory. What a great couple and what a fine man we have lost. Someday, perhaps, we all run out of steam and in my last conversation with Chard, he mentioned that his days were few. Chard, I join all the others--may you rest in Peace.

have all lost. Somehow, perhaps, we all must run out of steam, but Chard, you left behind many wonderful memories. May you rest in Peace.
