Funny how it seems OK that Oregon state money is supposed to go to keep shortlines running - even when they unilaterally shut themselves down. Has anyone actually verified the claimed reason? NOOOOoooooo! There was even a lot of whining in this forum about how you shouldn't have to dance to the ODOT's drummer to get any of it.
But try to spend a very meager sum in Northern California - and see all the ruckus (by some of the same guys) in this forum about how public money shouldn't subsidize any small railroad
- Go figure!
The NCRA will never get the NWP running until enough is appropriated to do the job. One thin dime less, will result in continued non-op - just as it has already. Yes, I agree, any inadequate amount is a total waste of taxpayer's money; but spend enough, and it will run - to the public benefit.
The NIMBYs be Damned!
Oh! and bytheway, visit Marin County bistros almost anywhere, and you will hear people congratulating each other on their "Low Carbon Footprint"; while at the same time they commute by car to The City and won't allow a much lower impact public transit to be built, let alone actually use it. Hypocrites All!
