On October 13, the Port of Long Beach will sponsor the Green Port Fest where you will be able to explore the Port of Long Beach by boat and
train. Imagine that! The boat tour is very interesting as I have done this at least 3 times, including once as part of the APTA convention in April 2005. According to the Port of Long Beach website, "Free train tours will be departing from a special station throughout the day, so hop aboard a Metroliink rail car to see how cargo moves in and out of the Port by train. Don’t miss the rail simulator, where you can experience what it’s like to drive the kind of locomotive that moves freight trains at the Port." Boat trips scheduled every hour will take passengers on tours of the Port. Seats are limited, so arrive early to get your boat reservations and free tickets." The event takes place on Saturday October 13 from 9 am until 3 pm. at the Port Administration Building. Admission is free. Free parking is available at the Queen Mary, 1126 Queen’s Highway.
