While UP was beginning to deal with its washout and grain train derailment north of Sandpoint, Idaho, last night, BNSF had a rock slide in the Kootenai River Canyon about 20 miles east of Bonners Ferry, near the Idaho/Montana state line. This closed their northern transcon for about five hours.

As said earlier, this was the rainiest March on record for the region. Sandpoint logged more than 7.8 inches of rain last month.
