The City is actively pursuing anything that generates lots of taxes. They've so far been supportive of moving the station further from downtown, making the station house the entrance to a magahotel, or tearing it down.

Just as long as the developers and the banks make money, the City will make money.

They seem to feel that taking some pictures and hanging them in the RR Museum is sufficient to preserve the building.
