classic SP Horns

Living most of my life near the SP Coast Line, I recall a distinctive horn SP used on many of their locomotives. I believe many of you refer to this horn as a Nathan Chime. Why isn't this horn used by railroads these days? Is it due to a current regulation or SP patent etc.? Thanks in advance for any answers.
