Onto the branch after 2:30pm Thursday could have easily let them run out of hours somewhere near CdA or Huetter if they had enough switching to deal with. Was thumbing through some of my 1980s photos the other day and recalled how the BN local, after doing all that mill switching at LP on Spokane Street in Post Falls, Northwest Timber/IFI at Gibbs, etc., they often wouldn't reach Coeur d'Alene's street trackage to the Rutledge mill until after 6pm. Great shooting in summer, but useless in winter. And they still had other mills at Gibbs, Huetter, and Post Falls to switch on their way west in the evening. With 5-man crews back then! Needless to say, they tied up on the branch or got recrewed quite a lot in those days.
