All the remarks are on point, but just as a thought experiment, would it even be possible? There already is a railroad from Eureka to the outside world, the NWP, but every time it begins to look as if it might operate, a winter storm comes in and floats it away. Wouldn't a line over the mountains to Gerber have the same problem?
