As reported in tonight's
Trainnews, the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission received 5 bidders to operate the Santa Cruz line that they are in the process of buying from UP.
As this is a topic of considerable interest at AP, I am posting a direct link to the Mercury news article:

Bidders included Big Trees, Iowa Pacific, Patriot Rail, Railmark, and the Golden Gate Railroad Museum.
GGRM has some interesting ideas!

GOLDEN GATE RAILROAD MUSEUM
Redwood City-based Golden Gate Railroad Museum also submitted a bid, after exploring a joint bid with Big Trees that never came to fruition. The nonprofit said it wants to operate a for-profit Santa Cruz Coast Railway as a subsidiary.
The nonprofit is not a museum per se, but does have an office and owns a collection of heritage equipment, including a steam engine. It plans to hire Cliff Walters, a Santa Cruzan who formerly oversaw the line for Sierra Northern, as general manager, and would be creating a venture basically from scratch.
But President David Hensarling said the unique opportunity was too good to pass on. The museum’s bid was arguably the most complete, and it already had met with some stakeholders, offering a detailed rollout plan for passenger rail and laying out its willingness to embrace a trail along the right-of-way (though no other bidder ruled that out, which is key to the RTC’s future plans for the line).
The Golden Gate Railroad Museum also wants to reinstate train service from Santa Cruz to San Jose.
