I have had visions of #2472 on the Santa Cruz Branch Line ever since I talked to a Cemex employee in Davenport last summer. He told me the GGRM approached Cemex to store their collection at the Davenport plant, but Cemex turned them down. When I learned about the collaboration between RCBT& P and the GGRM in March of this year I thought Santa Cruz and the branch line could become a rail destination.
The one qualification that I considered paramount was which proposer would work with the SCCRTC to implement the rail trail. Next was how well capitalized the proposer was. The GGRM has agreed to work with the SCCRTC to implement the rail trail, but I have no idea how well capitalized they are.
The addition of the biofuel plant in Watsonville is a real game changer. That coupled with the existing business in Watsonville and rail car storage in Davenport would allow a new operator to hit the ground running in the black.
I wonder if #2472 can clear the tunnel to make a run to Big Trees.
