I didn't think about chop nosing. I thought that a short line would remove the steam gen unit and ballast the nose to compensate. If the unit get's chop nosed then I doubt that it will ever have a chance to be preserved. I think that would be too big of a project for most museums to bother taking on.

But thinking about that, how tough would it be to reverse a chop nose project? If a short high hood was available from a scrapped unit, how much other stuff would be required to restore the unit to as-built appearance? Since the Santa Fe chopped the nose of their GP-7's and 9's it would be interesting to see how tough to restore one of the remaing units back to original condition.
