To GPfan--My mention of Sacramento Northern 712 is in reference to how museum management can screw hard-working and dedicated museum members to further their private agendas, which also seems to be the case with the 3194. At Rio Vista Jct., a group of members put a ton of work into making the 712 run and look good, only to have the train-hating Tram Nazis give it away. (I might add that Portola received far more from RVJct than they gave in return.) This is despite the fact that the 712 perfectly fulfilled RVJct's stated Collection Policy. Of course, the 712 is far from the only piece of equipment to be discarded regardless of the interest and hard work of a large number of members who unfortunately were not amongst the favored few.
Whether or not the 712 is "secure" at Portola is open to debate, but that is someone else's problem now. My sympathy goes out to the rank-and-file members of GGRM.
