On Saturday, May 11, 1972 there was a similar protest at the Davis Amtrak Station in which a number of anti-war demonstrators sat on the Cal-P line and blocked the movement of a SP Sugar Beet train whom they had mistaken for a munitions train movement. Dozens of Davis Police Officers converged on the scene and arrested many of them and took them to the Yolo County Jail. Many of the protestors actually served a brief jail term from 5-10 days for this incident. In an interesting development Davis City Council Member Bob Black was arrested by fellow Davis City Council Member Richard Weinstock who was a Davis Reserve Police Officer as well at the time and spent two (2) days in jail for the incident subsequently.
Fortunately, though none of the protestors was injured by any oncoming train as rail movements were temporarily halted during the protest.
About a year later, the concerns that many had about this munitions movement would surface when the big Roseville Railyard explosion occured on Saturday, April 28, 1973.
Did any other such "sittin on the railroad tracks" protests happend in other college communities i.e. Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Chico etc at that time as well.
