I don't know for sure but this may have been a test run. Siemens was awarded a contract recently to bring these secondhand cars up to operational status. Several features not used on the San Jose system need to be installed and controls need to be upgraded so that they are more reliable. I believe the reliability was the main issue that caused them to be sold off.

The one major sticking point to these cars is that they are not compatible with current RT equipment and never will be.
