They actually let a couple out of the shop? RT has been working on a couple of them for years. On the plus side, maybe that experience helped (or will help) scope the rebuild contract properly.

And you're correct: RT has said that the VTA cars can't operate with the others - they have to be kept in dedicated sets. In a recent "manager's chat" they also said that the VTA cars will not be used for opening the Richards line - supposedly they have enough of the regular cars for that. We'll see what if anything they get used for - commute express/limited stop runs perhaps?
