Norfolk Southern's Heritage Program involves railroads which eventually became part of today's NS system. Pittsburgh & Lake Erie merged into CSX 20 years ago. While the Pittsburgh & West Virginia was leased by Norfolk & Western which became Norfolk Southern, NS spun off its former P & WV lines into the Wheeling & Lake Erie. The New York, Ontario & Western was abandoned in 1957, so there was nothing of that railroad for NS to acquire. I don't know if anything from New Haven made it to NS, but the Connecticut Department of Transportation has kept the memory of the New Haven railroad alive since the mid-1980s when it repainted some FL9s into the New Haven scheme. ConnDOT continues to paint its locomotives in NH colors.
