I believe the rail line in the vicinity of the 5/14 - 5/210 - 5/405 interchanges was damaged in the 1971 earthquake where they crossed the surface fault zone. The fallen bridges were a problem too, including some that fell on the RR. Numerous reports were written about the earthquake, though there was little focus on railroads - the road and hospital damage was much more spectacular!

April/May 1971 "California Geology" issue focused entirely on the earthquake, and had lots of pictures. Text of the major articles (unfortunately, no pictures) can be read at: [www.lafire.com]

Picture of I-5 bridges fallen (in 1971) on the RR (during cleanup): [libraryphoto.cr.usgs.gov]
Another USGS picture of RR damage during reconstruction: [libraryphoto.cr.usgs.gov]
Closeup of where the I-5 bridge fell on the RR: [libraryphoto.cr.usgs.gov]

Enough of what you can find with a little Googling?

The 1994 earthquake caused minimal RR damage in the area of this interchange. IIRC Metrolink was running their suddenly added Palmdale service within a couple of days.
