The "operating" Shortest Railway in the United States is/was the Angel's Flight incline (originally funicular) in downtown Los Angeles at 300 feet. This line is currently out of service due to the serious accident several years ago and is slated to be back in operation next year. Tracks on which an engine "sits" can not really operate?
