My WP career ('78 to the end) also included time in SJ--mainly misc. survey work in the yard and even a new spur track or 2. Saw the Turn with the F's come around the corner into Williams St. Yard more than once. I even got sent down there one day during a strike to answer the phones in the Yard Office. We got a 5-minute crash course in how to look up car numbers for customers. The local clerk was a guy who actually cared about customer service too. Worried about how "his" customers were being taken care of, he came by after a couple of hours to help (since there was no picket line to deal with). Just a one-day gig for me.
