I agree with you; it's unknown what's going to happen to the YW. But I understand there's been a huge grant approved for the enlargement of the tunnels of the Siskiyou line, and IF I'm not mistaking, part of that will go toward the upgrading, (heavier rail) at least from between Montague and Timber Products. I'm not entirely sure about that last part though. If true, maybe the YW can be resurected within the next two years.
Rumorspersist the YW is in the process of being sold. I only hope, if true, it would be to someone who want's to make an investment to promote the continuation of commercial service, and perhaps even tourism again ... and not someone like the Williams Holding Co.
I hated driving that ALCO. It stank with exhaust fumes and I was blind to one side of her. I always had to have someone in the conductor's seat to "see" out the left side. I was able to save the front number board of the 244, which now I use for a TV lamp.
