David,

Funny how rumors remain of various displayed locomotives being "steamed" in place. 1215 was vacated by SP late in 1957 and put on display in 1958, so the Hanford steamup "may" be true.

It was said, the SP2479 was fired up at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in the early 1960s; in fact, an existing steam inspection report attests to the event. Nonetheless, considering the level of repairs we have undertaken during 2479's restoration, the fairgrounds steam-up story is unbelievable, despite the inspection report.

I was unaware of the existance of 1215's windows and frames until mentioned by Norman Holmes last Sunday in Portola. Their story of survival for 50 years is amazing in itself. Yes, they will be properly returned to the engine.

Thanks,
Ken
