Ernie was a business partner of my father back in the eighties, both were ex WWII Navy. Ernie was a bit of a closet railfan. He loved that role. And, was keen on the realistic and historically accurate equipment which was used in that film. He went out of his way to learn about the culture and history of railroading for that role.

He was a really nice guy, and he personally attended my father's funeral, with his lovely wife Tova.

RIP to a really nice guy and great actor, and deepest condolences to the Borgnine family.

He'll be missed.
