The museum owns 4 acres of land adjoining the SN line at Molena so building a loop would not be out of the question. However purists would complain that since SN never had a loop there, the museum should not build one no matter how practical it would be for running single-end cars or short rains pulled by one locomotive.
Beyond Molena is a large burned out trestle so extending the line farther would be very expensive.
At one time a dream was to extend the line to Fire Engine Road (some track still is intact) then run alongside the road to a California Department of Water Resources day use park about one-half mile distant. This possibly could have been done because the owner of the land involved also owned land adjacent to museum-owned land west of the road. A land exchange could have made this plan possible.
